Things have heated up so it’s time to cool off with the Guild August meeting on Saturday, August 5th, at 10:15. Bring all your planning ideas to share and let’s get this year started out with a bang. Lynn T. has created a handy worksheet for us to prepare our ideas for the upcoming meeting and it is attached to this email. I will also print some copies for us to look at while we work our planning magic.
Important Notice: Date for the “September” Meeting Changed to August 26th! Our “September” meeting will be held on Saturday, August 26th, partly to avoid Labor Day Holiday weekend, but mostly so that we can celebrate two events: the 70th (!) Anniversary of the founding of the Tulsa Handweavers Guild in 1953, and the awarding of Woof Awards to Patty L. and Gina L. We are planning a celebration with refreshments and fun. So mark your calendars and plan to come if you can. A “Woof Award?” you may ask. “Woof” is an obsolete term for weft, as in “warp and woof.” (Nothing to do with dogs, unless you count the rather pejorative phrase, “dog on the loom,” which means a weaving project you are having problems finishing, and is, I think, insulting to all our loyal doggy friends. But I digress.) The Woof Award is awarded to Guild members who have gone above and beyond in their support and contributions to the survival of the Guild as a place where It’s About the Weaving, not personalities. So remember: “September’s” Tulsa Handweavers Guild meeting will be held Saturday, August 26th in the Hardesty Library Maple Room beginning at 10:15 A.M. Please come and help us celebrate!
On a completely different note – the Guild is short on storage (to be accurate – there is none), so as a Guild we cannot store items/looms for later use.
Don’t forget to renew your Guild membership now. Membership comes at the low, low price of $25 for the year. A very reasonable price for fantastic weaving companionship, knowledge and of course, snacks. The renewal form is on page 2 of the newsletter.
Stay cool and we hope to see everyone on Saturday.
